Deconstructed Pools – Jackie & Anny

Concepts

Material: Food as structure. We wanted to strip everyday food items of their edibility and change their “behavior”. Can we give depth to a solid volume (i.e. a loaf of bread)? Can a plane (of milk) become a portal to a scene beyond?

Visual content: Reversal of reality. Our directional association with sky and sea is up and down. In our manufactured set, we flipped that world– where oceanic images are contained like clouds and hover over a surface of sky.

Ingredients

Setup (before/after)

We used two projectors opposite from each other so that we could capture 5 visible surfaces of the loaf of bread, as well as the tabletop milk pieces. Found videos of aquariums and pools were projected onto the hung loaves of bread, and moving clouds onto the milk.
